When the Center was approved in 2007, a capital equipment and remodeling drive was needed to help refurbish a graduate student room and six laboratories for shared use and to make a freezer room for Center researchers to store samples. The exclusive sponsors that made donations to make this happen were:
In 2014, Royal Canin made a large donation to help us remodel and equip the Molecular Biology Laboratory in the Center.
Funding of research scientists is one of the goals of the Center. Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. funds a number of Post-Doctoral Scholar positions at select Veterinary Teaching Hospitals. The Center for Companion Animal Studies has been fortunate to have four Boehringer-Ingelheim Scholars: Drs. Julia Veir, Audra Fenimore, Sara Wennogle (featured below), and Stacie Summers.
Currently, Zoetis sponsors an internal medicine PhD student, Dr. Sarah Shropshire, who is studying vector-borne diseases.
Nestle Purina PetCare continues to sponsor a Shelter Fellowship Program with the Center. Dr. Elena Contreras is a previous fellow that is currently finishing her PhD.
Dr. Stacie Summers is the current Boehringer-Merial Animal Health Scholar. Dr. Summers is studying chronic kidney disease (CKD) in cats and lectures on a variety of feline topics including CKD, hypertension, and upper respiratory infections.
The Center is now partnering with Viyo International on several exciting projects. View the news release explaining this exciting collaboration on research studies and training projects entitled "Partners in Excellence."
