Total Antioxidant Capacity and Inflammation in Cats with Diabetes Mellitus

Who Qualifies?

Any cat with diabetes mellitus (DM), whether newly diagnosed, already receiving treatment, controlled, or uncontrolled.

Purpose of the Study

Both oxidative stress and inflammation are likely contributors to Metabolic Syndrome in humans and Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2) in cats.  Both of these would be potential therapeutic targets, but first we simply need to identify and define their presence in these cats.

What is Required?

  •  An appointment with Small Animal Medicine.

  •  A standard venipuncture blood draw. Cat must be fasted for the appointment.

Benefits

  • The cost of the appointment and a Fructosamine level (one common way to quantify DM in cats) are free
