If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening illness or injury you should seek immediate veterinary care.

  • The collective expertise and experience of a team of veterinarians and technicians board certified in veterinary emergency and critical care are available 24/7 to treat and monitor your pet.
  • We are equipped to handle any veterinary emergency whether it requires minor or rapid life saving treatments.
  • At the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, we have access to specialists in every area of veterinary medicine. If a specialty problem arises, there is an expert available who can give insight into the care of your pet.
  • Our Argus Institute is available to support the emotional needs of pet owners who are facing challenges surrounding their pet's healthcare.

When Does My Pet Need Emergency Care?

Although there are many emergency situations, the following are common conditions requiring emergency veterinary care:
  • Trauma
  • Labored or difficult breathing
  • Collapse or loss of consciousness
  • Seizures
  • Change in mental status or activity
  • Toxin ingestion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Open fractures
  • Rattlesnake bite

Stray animal policy

If you find a stray animal, please call the
Larimer Humane Society, 3501 E​. 74th St., Loveland, (Map​​), (970) 226-3647.

Please DO NOT bring stray animals to the hospital during these hours:
Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The hospital will accept stray animals when the Humane Society is closed:
Monday-Friday 6 p.m.-8 a.m.
Saturday-Sunday 4 p.m.-8 a.m.​​​
