The Argus Institute provides free grief counseling relating to pet loss and support to those making end-of-life decisions for their pets. Founded in 1984, our unique program is one of the longest standing, most comprehensive programs of its kind. Our clinical counselors offer support to people who are facing difficult decisions regarding their pets’ health and help them manage the challenges of caring for a sick animal.

For the past six years, the Argus Institute at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital has hosted an annual Pet Memorial ceremony for clients of the hospital who have lost a beloved companion animal.
When the goal of a pet’s medical treatment shifts from pursuing a cure to providing comfort, pet owners may consider caring for a companion animal at home – with help from a pet hospice program. Hospice care is for pets that have three months or less to live. It emphasizes pain management and end-of-life care in the comfort of home.
