The combined Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories handle over 400,000 cases a year. VDL faculty hold over 50 positions in state and national veterinary diagnostic organizations. VDL faculty provide critical research and publish widely to protect animal and human health.
The Diagnostic Laboratories perform a wide variety of disease surveillance and investigation projects, many of which would be very expensive or impossible to do under laboratory purely conditions. The collaboration with producers or other government agencies usually involves a large “in-kind” contribution of animal procurement, care, and facilities costs.
