About the Specialized Infectious Disease Laboratory

Our Specialized Infectious Disease Laboratory handles hundreds of tests each day, yet we strive to give each case our personal attention. Our laboratory uniquely offers:

  • Toxoplasma gondii (ELISA)

    • IgM and IgG antibody testing on serum, CSF and Aqueous humor

  • Bartonella IgG serology (ELISA - Feline only)

  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) IgG serology (IFA - Canine only)

  • Ehrlichia canis IgG serology (IFA - Canine only)

Colorado State University’s Dr. Michael Lappin developed the Toxoplasma gondii test himself, to help diagnosis acute or chronic T.gondii infections in dogs or cats.

This laboratory is part of the Center for Companion Animal Studies, which works to foster interactions between clinical specialists, translational researchers, and basic researches in companion animal studies. Their goal is to improve quality of life for animals and indirectly improve human health through interactions with their companion animals.
