SARS-CoV-2 testing information for patients and healthcare providers

The Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is currently providing sample testing services for SARS-CoV-2. The lab achieved CLIA certification through a partnership with the Colorado State University Health Network.

Sample submission information

Samples must be submitted through an approved submission chain. At this time, we are not accepting general submissions from healthcare providers.

The CSU VDL reserves the right to change the terms of this Notice and to make any new Notice provisions effective for all Protected Health Information (PHI).

Test Information

Test:


​Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) real-time PCR

​Test Description:



​This protocol utilizes the ThermoFisher Scientific Applied Biosystems TaqPath COVID-19 real-time PCR assay under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

​Sample Type:


​Nasopharyngeal or nasal swab in 1-3 ml of viral transport media. Please consult with us on sampling options.

​Handling Instructions:



​Samples must be kept refrigerated (not frozen) until receipt at the lab. Samples should be received by the lab within two (2) days of collection.

​Submission Form:



​Approved submitters will be provided with an authorized submission form. The form must be completely filled out.

Reporting:



​All results will be reported to the submitting healthcare provider and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. An online portal is available to look up test results​. If you do not have an online portal account, you may request one by calling our office at 970-297-1281.

Price breaks can be provided for high-volume sample submission.
