Graduation Instructions for Graduates in Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Health, and Microbiology: 

The Dean, Faculty and Staff of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences rejoice with you on the forthcoming occasion of your graduation. Please read these guidance instructions carefully and advise your family and guests of those points that will allow them to celebrate this wonderful occasion with you.

Please note that graduate students (all MS and PhD students) from the College have their degrees awarded at the Graduate School Commencement Ceremony; see the CSU Graduate School website for more information.

Saturday, December 19
Lineup: 3:15 p.m.
Location: Lory Student Center, Grand Ballroom

We will begin promptly at 4 p.m. at the Lory Student Center, Grand Ballroom. Therefore you must be in the lineup area far enough in advance to don regalia, check your name card, and receive instructions from the college marshals regarding the conduct of the ceremony.

You will receive your name card (containing the information from the questionnaire you completed with your home department through the graduation website; see your department graduation coordinator if you have questions) and lineup instructions from the College Marshals. During the ceremony, your name and the biographical comments on your card will be read as you cross the dais to be congratulated by your department head and the dean. Please arrive on time and interact with fellow graduates while we prepare to recognize you.

If you have not completed the online Canvas surveys, you must arrive by 3 p.m. (COM-VM-Graduating Seniors: Graduating Seniors)


Professional photos will be taken as (1) you are congratulated and (2) with your diploma cover. You will be contacted after the ceremony by the photographer (GradImages) with specific instructions on how to access and view photos should you wish to order prints. You should receive a free passport-sized digital proof on an order card within 5-7 days following the ceremony. After the ceremony you may order online or call 800-261-2576. Personal photos before, during and after the ceremony are encouraged. This is a time to remember! Please be considerate of other guests and graduates for photos taken during the actual ceremony but feel free to encourage family members to record this joyous occasion.

Regalia (Caps and Gowns)

Cap and Gown Distribution:

Thursday and Friday, December 17 and 18, 2015
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Moby C-Wing (east side of the Moby complex), C-102

Additionally, regalia may be picked up one hour prior to their ceremony at their ceremony site, until 5 p.m. Saturday, December 19. No regalia, student or faculty, may be picked up after 5 p.m. Saturday, December 19.

Regalia Rental: Order your regalia (cap & gown) in advance via the CSU Commencement homepage and click Get Your Cap and Gown. For pricing and Grad Pack options, please visit the CSU Alumni AssociationOrder deadline is Wednesday, November 11, 2015.

Students who do not order regalia (cap, gown, and tassel) before the pre-order deadline have the opportunity to purchase a Grad Pack through the CSU Alumni Association.

Tassels: The Biomedical Sciences tassel is golden yellow. Tassels are always worn on the left and not switched during the ceremony.

Graduation Announcement and Class Rings

Customized announcement orders: Representatives from CB Grad Announcements (announcements) and Josten’s (class rings) will be present on October 20, 21, and 22 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Flea Market area (outside the University Bookstore) to take advanced, customized orders. After October 22, announcement orders may be placed at or by calling 800-433-0296. Customized orders are returned within seven days of being ordered. The Grad Fair itself, sponsored by the Bookstore, will be one day only - Wednesday, October 21, (lower level of the Bookstore).

Generic announcements (non-personalized): May be purchased at the University Bookstore at any time.


Tickets are not required for the commencement ceremony but we anticipate a full house. Graduates are asked to limit guests to no more than 10 per graduate to ensure adequate seating for all. Seating is on a first come-first served basis.
Areas will be set up to accommodate anyone with a special need, please call 491-5703 (Alicia Kaempfe) so that we may make advance arrangements for your comfort.


Parking can be found west of Moby Gymnasium, or north of the Lory Student Center. There should be sufficient time between ceremonies to minimize parking congestion. Metered parking is in effect on week days only until 4 p.m. Parking is free in metered slots after 4 p.m. and on the weekends. During the time of graduation ceremonies, most University parking restrictions (with the exception of handicap spaces, loading zones or other specially designated slots) are relaxed for the benefit of our guests.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, please call (970) 491-SNOW or check for updates on the university's operating status and news of any closures or cancellations.

Additional Information

Please remember that this ceremony is a public event, reflecting upon you as an individual and the College and University as a whole. For this reason, we request that you maintain the appropriate dignity in dress and conduct.

Guest conduct restrictions

Prohibited items not allowed in Commencement and Commissioning venues include the following:

  1. Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs carried in by patrons.

  2. Glass bottles or metal cans.

  3. Ice chests or large coolers.

  4. Bota bags or wine skins.

  5. Sticks, bats or clubs, including any attachments.

  6. Fireworks, firearms or other weapons, or simulated weapons.

  7. Bullhorns or other artificial noisemakers.

  8. Framed backpacks.

  9. Animals other than certified guide dogs for the disabled.

The ceremony will be streamed live and archived for guests who cannot attend. Please see the CSU Commencement Website for more information.

Information about Fort Collins, travel to the city and the university, available hotel and motel sites, plus other data to make your visit and celebration convenient and enjoyable is available here. Detailed information will be available as the time of commencement draws near. The ceremony is streamed by computer for distant persons with whom you wish to share. See the aforementioned site for information on viewing the ceremony.

Can't Attend? If you are unable to attend your ceremony, diploma covers are available at no charge in the Registrar’s Office of Centennial Hall. Diploma covers can be mailed to you by calling (970) 491-7159 or for graduate students, 491-6817. The cost is $5 postage for U.S. mailing. The actual diploma will be mailed to you approximately 6-8 weeks after commencement. Please alert your home department through the Ram​CT Commencement questionnaire (; Graduating Seniors) if you are NOT attending so their preparations reflect your wishes.
