Getting Started with Handshake
The first time you log in, you will be prompted to set up an account. You are able to provide as much or as little of the requested information as you desire. It is important that you correctly enter your major as "Veterinary Medicine (DVM only)" in the "Profile" section. If you fail to do this, you will not be able to view the entire job positing for veterinary specific jobs. For example, if you do not list your major as DVM only, the system will not allow you see application procedures for available veterinary positions.
Searching for Employment
Locate "Jobs" on the left side menu bar. Under the search menu, find the "Major" category heading and select
"Veterinary Medicine (DVM only)." Next, locate the "Employer Industry” category heading and select "veterinary." If you do not take these two steps, or attempt to use any other filter to find veterinary opportunities, the system will include jobs that are unrelated to veterinary medicine. For best results leave the rest of the search as broad as possible. For example, do not select "full-time." We have found that this will limit your results with little accuracy in identifying positions that are actually full-time.
