Computer Purchase Guidelines

The applications and systems used at CVMBS are compatible with most main stream platforms, but there are some exceptions and things to consider before making your purchase.

Computers running the Windows operating system
All CSU and CVMBS applications and systems are designed to work with the current, supported version of Microsoft Windows
Apple Computers
Most of the CSU and CVMBS applications and systems are compatible with Apple MacOS, however, certain applications at the Vet Teaching Hospital and Diagnostic Lab are designed to run on the Windows operating system. Microsoft Windows can be installed on your Apple computer, but will require additional software.
Tablets (Apple and Android)
Apple and Android tablets will work for most CVMBS systems, but will require several apps to be installed to be compatible. Certain applications at the Vet Teaching Hospital and Diagnostic Lab are designed to run on the Windows operating system and can’t be accessed from a tablet. Printing from an iOS or Android tablet to a CVMBS printer is not supported.
Google ChromeBooks
Chrome OS based laptops and tablets will work for Canvas access as well as normal internet and email use, however, they are not compatible with the VTH Medical Record System software, the Diagnostic Lab’s accessioning system or Radiology’s imaging software. Printing from a Chromebook to a CVMBS printer is not supported.
