William Black: Research Staff, Students, and Collaborators

 Black Laboratory Information

Current Staff

Dr. Karla Saavedra-Rodriguez is an insect toxicologist who works on various molecular techniques (microarray, next generation sequencing) to identify genes that confer resistance to insecticides.

Dr. Corey Campbell is an insect molecular biologist who works on genes that control vector competence to arboviruses. Dr. Campbell is also involved in bioinformatics analyses.

Current Students

Dr. Miguel Moreno-García is a postdoctoral researcher working on the impact of insecticide resistance on vector competence for DENV.

Dr. Abdiel Martin-Park is a postdoctoral researcher determining the impact of insecticide resistance on metabolic rate and other physiological traits in Aedes aegypti.

Laura Dickson is a Ph.D. candidate who works on the evolution of Aedes aegypti aegypti and Aedes aegypti formosus mosquitoes in West Africa.

Selene Marysol Garcia Luna is a Ph.D. candidate who works on the evolution of dengue viruses in refractory and susceptible Ae. aegypti from Mexico.

Farah Zamira Vera Maloof is a Ph.D. candidate who works on measuring life history traits in Ae. aegypti from Mexico that are resistant to pyrethroid insecticides.

Current Collaborators

Dr. Brian Foy in identifying pathways that may confer resistance to ivermectin in anopheline vectors of malaria.

Dr. Greg Ebel in assessing how DENVs and components of the Aedes RNAi machinery interact to drive DENV evolutionary change.

Dr. Tony Schountz in statistical/bioinformatic analysis of genes associated with innate immune responses to arenavirus and hantavirus infections in rodents and bats.

International Collaborators
