Curriculum for the Master of Science (professional) in Toxicology

The 32-credit program offers ample flexibility and is structured to maximize learning opportunities and develop particular skill sets. Credit may be earned for research, independent study and internships. Students work with their faculty advisor to determine electives and receive professional guidance.

Core Courses:

  • Fundamentals of Toxicology - ERHS 502 - 3 credits
  • Metabolism and Distribution of Toxic Agents - ERHS 601 - 3 credits
  • Toxicological Mechanisms - ERHS 602 - 3 credits
  • Toxicological Pathology - ERHS 603 - 3 credits

Departmental Electives

At least one course must be selected from the following options:
  • Environmental and Occupational Health Issues - ERHS 520 - 3 credits
  • Forensic Toxicology - ERHS 566 - 3 credits
  • Pharmaceutical and Regulatory Toxicology - ERHS 568 - 3 credits
At least two courses must be selected from the following options:
  • Environmental Contaminants: Exposure and Fate - ERHS 448 - 3 credits
  • Equipment and Instrumentation - ERHS 547 - 3 credits
  • Environmental Health Risk Assessment - ERHS 549 - 3 credits
  • Cellular and Molecular Toxicology Techniques - ERHS 567 - 3 credits
  • Environmental Carcinogenesis - ERHS 733 - 3 credits

Other Requirements:

  • Seminar (1 credit) - Select one credit of a seminar course. Eligible seminar courses include all approved course listings in seminar format.
  • Out of Department Requirement (3 credits) - Three credit minimum of 500-level or above. Eligible courses determined by advisor and graduate committee.
  • Electives (7 credits) - No more than a total of four (4) credits in Independent Study, Group Study, Research and Internship course numbers may be included.
