The Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University was founded by renowned equine arthroscopic surgeon Dr. C. Wayne McIlwraith and is known worldwide for joint problem prevention and healing research in the horse with some recently expanded work in human athletes. A dedicated group of senior scientists, graduate and post-doctoral students continue to answer critical questions about orthopaedic health in horses and humans.

  • John and Leslie Malone donate 42.5 million
    The Malones have donated $42.5 million to the college – the largest cash gift in CSU history – for research that benefits human and animal health! The gift will launch an institute that develops stem-cell therapies and other regenerative treatments for animals, with discoveries that may be applied to new treatments for people. ​​
  • $20 million gift, ORC
    Thank you to an anonymous racehorse breeder who has pledged $20 million for a new CSU research facility! The gift fulfills a matching challenge from lead donors John and Leslie Malone. We’re galloping to the future of regenerative medicine.​

Equine sports medicine researchers with horse
